Anniversaries seem to come around in the blink of an eye. One minute you’re planning the first one, the next you’re looking back on years – maybe even decades – and wondering where the time went. But no matter how long you’ve been together, nothing beats celebrating with people you love around you and a great meal. Our latest clients knew this, which is why they got in touch with Hog Roast Derry and asked us to serve up something worthy of the occasion.
Working closely with the couple over several conversations, our catering manager Jamie helped them land on the Southern Slow Roast Menu – a decision that made a lot of sense for a relaxed evening celebration with 57 guests and no interest in anything too formal or fussy. The date was set for the 4th of July and Hog Roast Derry counted down each day leading up to it with mounting excitement.
Hog Roast Derry’s catering team arrived at the venue early that afternoon, well ahead of the 5:30pm dinner service, which gave them all the time they needed to get everything ready. And with a menu like this, time really is everything. BBQ pork butt, Cajun-spiced chickens, Louisiana sticky pork ribs and sizzling sausages all went on low and slow, and the results of that patience started making themselves known long before any plates were filled. Guests arriving at the venue were greeted by an aroma that had heads turning before anyone had even spotted the grill – the kind of smell that immediately raises expectations and then somehow still manages to exceed them.
Rolls, wraps and a range of sauces from smoky sweet to properly fiery gave guests full control over their plates, while grilled vegetable kebabs and BBQ pulled jackfruit burgers ensured the veggie and vegan guests weren’t left hungry.
The sides completed the picture – fresh Greek salad, gooey mac and cheese with a crispy top and a mix of sweet potato and classic fries that practically demanded salt, vinegar and a generous pour of sauce.
The couple were absolutely delighted with the results and honestly, that reaction never gets old. Here’s to many more anniversaries – and hopefully a few more phone calls to Hog Roast Derry along the way.
